In many of our products the end user has the ability to label things by entering text into the local touch screen in a setup page. In this way what we may call “Cleaner 1″, “Cleaner 2″, “Cleaner 3″, etc by default on the main touch screen pages they can change to show “North-West Cleaner”, “South Cleaner”, “Big Mama Cleaner” or whatever names they are used to associating with those machines. It would be nice if ScadaMobile could pull this same ASCII string from the PLC and replace either the label or the comment (either would be ok) for a tag with the text pulled from the PLC.

Mark, this is already in our to do list. We plan to combine this feature with the ability to work with string expressions. With both features you will be able to do not only what you suggest but also to combine other strings and numeric values into a text for the ‘label’, ‘comment’ or ‘value’ attributes. This requires to redesign some implementation details of the communication protocol drivers but we believe that the effort will pay to. Thanks for the suggestion.

Update: The recently released version 2.0 already features application wide STRING support, including for reading/writing to PLCs.
